The Dearborn Public Library has five new Playaway Launchpad tablets and volume-limiting headphones for use at each location. Playaway Launchpads for early learning are pre-loaded tablets with e-books and apps for learning skills such as phonics, number recognition, STEAM, and social skills.

“Reading and playing with apps on a tablet give a child and their caregiver more ways to interact while visiting the library. Electronic devices can get children who may be resistant to traditional books excited about reading while reinforcing learning and social skills,” states Susan Jelic, Youth Services Supervisor.

Children and their caregivers interested in using a device during their library visit may request one at the information desk of any Dearborn Public Library. Funding for the Playaway Launchpads and headphones was provided by a grant from the Dearborn Library Foundation.
