PLAINVILLE – A Plainville man allegedly kicked a cop in the stomach and threatened to “come for” him when his shift was over when he was arrested last month.

Justin Rondeau, 42, of 49 Colonial Court, faces charges of assault on a police officer, second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct and interfering/resisting police.

According to the arrest warrant in the case – which was released Friday – police responded to the 42-year-old’s home on June 26 on the report of a possible domestic violence incident. Officers noted in the warrant that Rondeau had a deep laceration to one side of his neck, which looked like it needed sutures, and a less serious laceration to the other side of his neck. Police said they believe these wounds were self-inflicted during an argument in which Rondeau believed his girlfriend was talking to another man, the warrant said.

As police tried to escort Rondeau out of the home and into an ambulance, officers wrote in the warrant, he tried to head toward the couch, saying he wanted to grab a shirt, though police said they believe he was likely trying to obtain a weapon, as there was no shirt nearby. As an officer extended his arm out to try to guide the 42-year-old toward the door, Rondeau allegedly went toward the policeman and tried to punch him.

Police said they were able to block the punch, grabbing a hold of Rondeau, at which point he fell in the doorway, bringing the officer with him. On the ground, police said, he continued to fight and wrestle with police and was able to kick an officer in the stomach. According to the warrant, Rondeau threatened to “whoop” the police officer, saying “I’m going to come for you after you get out of work.”

Rondeau was then brought to an area hospital.

A policeman reported an injury to his thumb and hand, which required medical attention.

Police wrote in the warrant that Rondeau has been violent toward police in the past and has threatened to shoot them.

Rondeau was charged in the incident last week and initially held on $15,000 bond. During a hearing Monday in New Britain Superior Court, he was freed on a promise to appear. His case was continued to Aug. 24.

Rondeau has not entered a plea to the charges.
