Jaguar builds some of the most desirable vehicles in the world, but their SUVs do come with certain issues and potential problems.

When any model of Jaguar drives by, heads turn. And when the vehicle brand name Jaguar comes up, you automatically think expensive and luxurious. The Jaguar line of vehicles is manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover. This includes the three Sport Utility Vehicles, or SUVs, the F-Pace, the E-Pace, and the I-Pace.

Updated September 2021: If you're a fan of Jaguar and it's vehicles, or looking to buy one of the British manufacturer's SUVs, you'll be happy to know that we've updated this list with more relevant information to help you make the best possible decision.

The F-Pace, a compact luxury crossover SUV, was first introduced in 2015. It was designed to offer the same excitement and handling as any Jaguar car but in a larger SUV body. The second SUV to be introduced by Jaguar was the E-Pace in 2017. It is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV with a transverse front-engine. The third SUV Jaguar introduced is an electric version called the I-Pace. In its first production year, 2018, the I-Pace won many international car awards and continued the winning trend with the 2019 model year.

Even an expensive, luxury vehicle can have its issues. Keep reading to see the 15 Most Glaring Problems With Jaguar's SUVs.

When driving any vehicle, one of the most important safety features a driver relies on to slow or stop is the brakes. I-Pace drivers were at risk due to a delayed reaction from the braking system on the electric Jaguar. It was discovered that the regenerative braking system on the I-Pace may experience a delay from when the brake pedal is pressed to when the vehicle starts to slow down. All 2019 and 2020 model-year vehicles were recalled for a software update to resolve the problem.

The brake system delay meant the I-Pace failed to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.”

Any vehicle’s instrument cluster is a computerized source of information for the driver. The instrument cluster displays information such as oil pressure, engine temperature, tire pressures, amount of fuel remaining, and vehicle speed.

Owners of 2017-2018 Jaguar F-Pace models fitted with the virtual instrument cluster could occasionally experience that the display went blank intermittently, or reset while driving. This wasn't just frustrating, it could also be unsafe if the display malfunctioned for extended periods while driving, increasing the risk of a collision since the driver wouldn't have access to important information, such as vehicle speed. Jaguar issued two recalls on vehicles affected for a software update.

There have been a small number of 2017 F-Pace Jaguars fitted with automatic transmissions that may have a rear driveshaft that is too short. This could potentially result in the driveshaft separating from the vehicle, which in turn could potentially cause a crash.

Jaguar Land Rover issued a recall to owners to bring their F-Pace in for inspection and replacement if needed.

Owners of particular 2019 F-Pace Jaguars will be receiving recall notices for an improperly manufactured crankshaft pulley bolt. The improperly manufactured bolt does not meet specifications and may fracture during the vehicle's use.

A fractured bolt will result in engine failure, hence the recall, and free of charge repair for the owner.

The 2017 F-Pace with a 3.0-liter engine under the hood may need to replace the bolt holding the fuel pump in place. The fuel pump may not be secured in place due to its bolt being too long. This could cause a fuel leak and fire if the fuel line cracks. Units will be inspected and repairs completed as needed.

In addition, there was a recall concerning the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace and F-Pace, as well as other models equipped with the 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The fuel rail end caps could leak, which could potentially result in fuel leaking into the engine bay.

Even though the I-Pace is an exciting car to drive, it comes with some issues. It seems that extremes in outdoor temperatures have an impact on the battery of the electric SUV. Nor does the I-Pace have the range of a Tesla on a regular basis.

One tester of the I-Pace discovered, the hard way, the battery is affected by temperature extremes of hot or cold. The SUV will unexpectedly loose range amounts on the battery requiring a plugin to recharge. You may need to plan to find a 240V outlet at your destination to top up the battery.

While the F-Pace does not appear to have a specific recall for random overheating engine issues, owners have commented on surveys that it is happening. Some have experienced coolant gushing out, while the engine temperature gauge did not change.

These are brand-new vehicles with not many miles on them yet. Maybe there is a recall in the future for this issue?

E-Pace owners are experiencing transmission issues with their SUVs. The first issue is while driving, some are kicking themselves out of gear. Then it does not allow the driver to put it back into gear to continue driving, so a tow is in order.

The second issue has been a delay, possibly between the engine and the transmission. When the E-Pace is put into gear, there is a lapse of a few seconds before the vehicle moves. When it does decide to move, it jumps or leaps.

The latest recall by Jaguar is regarding certain 2020-2021 F-Pace vehicles and concerns the automatic locking retractors for the seat belt. The problem is that they could deactivate early, which prevents the child restraint system from securing properly and might increase the risk of injury or death in case of an accident.

Owner notification letters will be sent out on October 22nd, 2021, and Jaguar dealerships will inspect the seat belts and replace them if necessary, free of charge, of course.

Earlier this year, Jaguar started recalling certain 2019-2020 Jaguar F-Pace SUVs due to the Auto High Beam (AHB) system failed to indicate via the instruments when the high beams are illuminated automatically. Drivers could potentially be unaware that high beams are activated, blinding oncoming traffic and increasing the risk of an accident.

Because of this, the affected vehicles don't comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The recall started in April 2021.

Drivers of the E-Pace are experiencing issues with their metalized windshields. The windshields contain metal oxide to help block UV rays protecting the vehicle's interior, keeping the interior cooler, and cut down on glare.

Except the metalized windshields are also blocking radio waves, GPS signals, toll transponders, and even cell phones. E-Pace owners may need to consider installing external transmitters and receivers to lessen this problem.

Another issue with the E-Pace, for some drivers, has been the throttle pedal sensitivity and a lack of feel. Drivers have discovered that even slight movement in their foot when going over bumps in the road causes jerky acceleration and deceleration.

The E-Pace has given some drivers an unwanted surprise while behind the wheel. Randomly, while driving, the engine shuts itself down, the engine light comes on, and the SUV goes into “limp” mode. Not a great thing if you are at freeway speeds.

Jaguar has put out a software patch for this problem, so time will tell if it is a permanent fix or more will need to be done.

F-Pace owners have been faced with dead batteries after their F-Pace has been sitting for as little as ten minutes. Jaguar has tested and replaced the faulty batteries for owners, but still quite the inconvenience.

Some are attributing the dead batteries to a program that continues to run on the SUV even though the vehicle is turned off. And some have experienced the F-Pace recognizing the FOB in the near vicinity and starting up programs on the vehicle.

The earlier production years of the F-Pace had a clunky, non-user-friendly system that frustrated drivers. The 2020 F-Pace has a sleeker, modernized cover and touch controls to its infotainment system. One setback still is that it is still slow in responding to input and button selection.

Jaguar is considered a luxury vehicle and that is going to be reflected in the pricing, even on a base model SUV. Depending on a buyer’s budget, this could become a disappointment.

The smallest of the three Jaguar SUVs, the subcompact E-Pace base model starts at $49,500. Next is the compact F-Pace which has a starting point of $52,500 for its base model. And topping off the Jaguar SUV list is the electronic I-Pace at a base price of $89,800. Of course, as options are added to the SUV’s the prices will reflect this and increase.

The F-Pace has gained a label it most likely really does not wish to have… the least reliable vehicle according to Consumer Reports. Consumers have had concerns about infotainment system issues, squeaks and noise, and the engine stop-start system.

Jaguar Land Rover encourages owners to head back to their dealership when any issues occur. But with the price tags on these units, owners probably expect nothing but perfection in their new pride and joy.
