Agricultural products maker United Cooperative is preparing to launch a project to construct a new feed and grain manufacturing facility and a soybean crushing and processing facility in Waupun, WI, the firm announced in a recent release. The move will allow the company to meet regulatory requirements and expand supply of feed products to farm operators.

“New Safe Food, Safe Feed regulations require feed manufacturers to comply with quality control measures that are not possible with outdated feed mills,” John Scheuers, vice president, Feed division for United, said in a statement. “As a result, United Cooperative’s investment in this new Waupun facility will enable us to meet these new growth initiatives and promise to our member owners that they can ‘Rely on Us’ for their agricultural needs.”

Capabilities at the Waupun site will include high-speed loading and unloading technology for ingredients, high-speed roll grinders, pelleting capacity, steam flaking and mineral manufacturing assets, and computerized control systems for operations.

“Our goal is to manufacture 23 tons of feed every 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of items in the mix,” said Scheuers.

The crushing and processing plant will be capable of crushing 7.5 million bu/yr of soybeans and produce soybean meal and soy oil. About 50 new jobs will be created through the investment.
