The S 710 Prime tablet press, produced by Romaco Kilian, is intended to offer economical production of mono-layer and bi-layer tablets. The company reports it can be used to compress effervescent tablets and can easily be connected to a packaging line.

According to the manufacturer, the S 710 Prime has a maximum output of more than 1 million tablets per hour. It is said to offer fast product changes, short cleaning times and long maintenance intervals for optimal availability and minimized downtime.

Matthias Sieringhaus, Romaco Kilian product manager, told Outsourcing-Pharma that the press strikes a balance with a number of market needs: high quality, high performance, and cost efficiency.

“There is great demand on the market for high-quality, high-performance double-sided rotary presses for compressing mono-layer and bi-layer tablets,” he said. “At the same time, however, there’s also a trend in some areas to keep the initial investment when purchasing these machines relatively low.”

Sieringhaus added that the S 710 Prime press, by having the ability to produce single-layer and two-layer tablets in one machine, increases its efficiency and flexibility. Further, he said, the machine offers a high degree of performance, especially in relation to its purchase price and operating cost.

The company reports features like the hermetic separation between the compaction and ‘grey’ help to speed cleaning of the press between batches. Additionally, attributes such as the interchangeable die table reportedly help increase the versatility of the equipment.

Features like advanced brake-magnet technology are intended to enhance output quality and consistency. Additionally, the company has incorporated features like durable pressure rollers and components to reduce maintenance, and minimal product-contact parts to reduce energy consumption.

Sieringhaus told us the press was designed with sustainability in mind.

“Sustainability in production is an extremely important issue for today and the future. It is not only about preserving the planet and the responsible use of resources, but also a matter of greater economic efficiency and growth,” he said.

Sieringhaus also told us the tablet press is engineered to reduce product loss, which minimizes the amount of material consumed during production of a batch. Additionally, he said, the machine’s relatively small footprint leads to reduced energy cost and consumption, due to reduced air conditioning requirements.
